Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on Tuesday, August 20, in L.A. County Superior Court, after just over two years of marriage.

Some surprising details were revealed in the divorce documents, such as the couple’s separation on April 26, 2024, days before Jennifer served as an honorary co-chair of the Met Gala.

In July 2022, Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, tied the knot in Las Vegas, reigniting a relationship that had its origins two decades ago. This romance, which captivated the media from 2002 to 2004, was popularly known as “Bennifer” in tabloid publications.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck made two films together; The comedy movie “Gigli” by Martin Brest in 2003 and another comedy-drama film “Jersey Girl” by Kevin Smith in 2004. By the time “Jersey Girl” was released in theaters, Lopez and Affleck had ended their engagement and chosen to go their separate ways.

What did we know about this divorce?

It has been reported that Jennifer and Ben did not establish a pre-nup agreement, indicating that all income generated over the last two years will be classified as community property in the event of their divorce.

Jennifer filed “pro per,” which means that she did it by herself and didn’t engage the services of an attorney.

Jennifer relinquished her right to spousal support and requested that the judge also reject any claim for spousal support from Ben.

The financial settlements remain unresolved, suggesting that the former couple may face an extended divorce dispute regarding their financial matters.
