Betsy Ross and her family noticed that someone had destroyed the duck nests in a park in Visalia, California. It was an unhappy sight, but after closer inspection, they found a little cracked egg that had a small crack.

The mother wants to do everything to save whatever was left after the smash and she decides to take the egg home because it wasn’t leaking and started incubating it, in her cleavage – weird right?

‘My children were angry about it, but discovered a lone egg that wasn’t leaking, and urged to rescue it. At first, I didn’t think I could save it because I’ve never for once in my life hatched an egg.’ Betsy explained.

First thing’s first – the egg is probably losing heat, so Betty placed them in her bra.

Betsy asked the organization if she can take the animal if she hatched it, and they agreed. ‘I placed the egg in my bra in order to keep it safe. I also started researching on the internet how to hatch a duck after which I carried it in my bra for 35days and slept with it there. I am a plus-size so it fits right between my breasts.’ Betsy added.

And this goes on for 35 days until the egg was ready to hatch. When she would take a shower, she hands the egg to her husband. She also couldn’t afford an incubator, so body heat was her only choice.

Betsy a chubby girl helps her in holding the egg up just fine. She had used a sports bra and even sleep with the egg to make sure it stays warm. Every few hours she would rotate the egg. Also, she’s taken her summer work off to care for the egg.

In an interview with Bored Panda, Betsy also talked about how she asked help from a local wildlife place as hatching egg is something new to her.

“I couldn’t afford an incubator, so I called our local wildlife place [but] they told me they didn’t take eggs,” she said.

On day 35, I started hearing faints peeps, which is regarded as pipping on the internet. Its beak was also pushing through the lining, and soon betty got the materials ready to create a makeshift incubator for the duck to hatch in. When it starts pipping, she puts it in the box.

Finally, it cracked

The little baby managed to crack out with its beak. But then after confirming with a vet, it appears that the duck was still vacuum sealed by the sac, and Betty had to slowly peel the shell away and make sure he could breathe.

He was eventually out and alive but looked very weak.

Nobody he thinks little duckling was going to make it. But Betsy didn’t give up, she helped him up to drink and after a few days, the family found out in the morning that baby duck was walking around! Betty would let him swim in the tub or mud puddles from time to time. Her kids named him Thawne was inspired by comic-book characters.

Now, Thawne is a happy duck at a new farm with a pond and friends!

The wildlife place later told her that they don’t take in this particular species, so Betty handed him over to another rescue farm. She said she wanted to keep him, but said, “It wouldn’t be fair to him not to have other ducks or a pond.”
